The Gym

Fluorescent  lighting, heads in apps, Monster drinks sold on reception. Health clubs can feel far away from health.

I have just spent 8 unexpected months working in a gym.

The glimmers have been; supporting women who want to step confidently into this space, new friends, strong women over 60 lifting next to young men in their 20s and guiding slow classes which calm nervous systems and hearing that people nearly nodded off. And to those I have seen one to one, reminding them that it is a joint effort, you can say no to any move, cancel any session and walk out of any class, at any time, if it’s not your thing.

I believe if the fitness industry vanished tomorrow we would all be more than ok. We would trust ourselves and move in ways that feel like us. Maybe we would move in fun ways (whatever fun is for you) in fields, up hills, on pitches, through streets, in homes or halls, with friends, community or on our own, in alignment with ourselves.

Look for the glimmers and listen.
